Quilt Project!

I have been involved with the American International Women's Club of geneva, since I arrived in switzerland. One of our projects was to make quilts for premature babies at the local hospital for a year. This cake was to celebrate the end of the project, on which we had the Chief Doctor of the premature Unit to celebrate this lovely iniciative from the AIWC to the genevoise community. ( Since then I have been making lovely quilts...) This one...was an edible one!!!

Giorgio's McQueen car

Giorgio is Alessandro's ( cake with 2 boys and a dog on a boat, fishing) little brother. Now is his time to get his favourite "thing in life" into a cake... guess what!!!....This little car gave me a lot of work! It is always hard to copy cartoons or toys, as you can only aim to have something similar, But all worthed! I hope Giorgio will have a unforgetable birthday!

Gaetan the supercool dude!

The joys of creating cakes for children is the amazement that I see on their faces when they see the cake! Surely Gaetan would not like me to call him a child, but a pre-teen !!! so be! He is only 12 but loves his skateboard and is now starting on snowboarding, on which my partner Ago really enjoyed to show this cool dude, some tricks of the trade! happy baptism Gaetan!

Bert on his bike!

This cake was a present to a friend of mine, Bert. His hobby is cycling , around switzerland and france on his fancy bike ( that unfortunately I didn't have the picture to try to portrait it better the real thing). Anyway, Dorothy, his wife and a dear friend of mine told me that the little figurine could not look more similar to Bert, when he is ready to set off!!! Happy birthday Bert!

Little Evelyn 1st Birthday!

When Evelyn's mum approched me, her first thought was that she wanted a pink cake with " happy 1st birthday Evelyn"... I invited her over to my house and showed her some of my books, pictures and other blogs. Also, she brought printed pictures of what she found, so we could create her dream cake. After our brainstorm, this is what we came out with.

Such is the nature of the creation process: to work with what the client wants. The most rewarding part for me is when I deliver the cake and they tell you... " it is the most cute cake I ever seen..." , or ... "it came out even better than I expected...".

the creation process!

The sugar paste is in place, the creation process starts. the ideas flow in my head, as I had already a theme, the bikini girl. But then comes, how, were etc... I always try to get information about people, what they like, dislike personality and little details that might make the difference. When you are creating a cake for a person, you want that person to identify with the cake, so the details are everything.
In this case, Alessandra loves the beach and have a collection of bikinis, hats , bags and havainas ( brazilian sandals) to go with it. That is why bikini and sandals are matching and bag and hat too. Nothing more proper than to put the beach girl from rio at their most famous beach " Copacabana". Brown sugar and cinnamon create the perfect sand...

Alessandra's cake!

The beach girl from rio... a self confessed bikini crazy... could not have had other cake. Inspired by her love for the beach life and her bikini collection... Although I was born and bred by the sea, I do not have 50 pairs of biquinis!!!
To those who know rio de janeiro, will straight recognize the copacabana famous art nouveau pavement.

Christmas Time

It was a busy Christmas. But of course I had time to give my friends a taste... This cake was made to a friend whose husband loves cakes and sweeties, so much that he has cake every breakfast. The feedback was ... NOT A SINGLE CRUMBLE LEFT!
